Garland Clerks Say He'll Be Steady Hand To Guide DOJ
Eric Lewis was quoted in Law360 on President-elect Joe Biden's selection of Merrick Garland as the next attorney general.
Another longtime friend of Garland, Eric Lewis of Lewis Baach Kaufmann Middlemiss PLLC, told Law360 that the judge's widely admired track record on the bench means that whatever decisions he makes about prosecutions and other matters will be hard for many to question.
And while there's been damage to morale inside the department over the last four years, Lewis said, as someone who's served as a line prosecutor himself and understands how hard the job is, Garland is well-poised to have the confidence of the rank and file.
"I think they'll understand that they have someone in that corner office who knows what they need to do, how to do it, and who will be making decisions through a process they can understand and respect," Lewis said.
