Diddy's freedom 'rises and falls' on Cassie Ventura testimony as lawyers prep for closing arguments: expert
Anthony Capozzolo, partner at Lewis Baach Kaufmann Middlemiss and a former federal prosecutor, provided insight on Sean "Diddy" Combs' federal sex trafficking trial as the parties prepare closing arguments.
Anthony told Fox News that the trial’s outcome likely hinges on whether the jury concludes that Cassie Ventura and the other women who testified had been coerced into participating in the "freak-offs." “If the jury believes that Cassie Ventura and the other women were coerced, then Combs may likely face a conviction on one or more of the charges,” he said.
Anthony also highlighted the absence of testimony by co-conspirators admitting to the conspiracy, which is usually present in racketeering cases, and questioned whether there was an actual agreement by the co-conspirators to participate in the scheme—a necessary element to prove the racketeering charges. Here, "some of the people whom the government identifies as key co-conspirators have never been charged, nor have they testified, such as Combs’ former chief of staff, Kristina Khorram," he said.
However, he noted that even if acquitted of the top racketeering charge, Combs could still face significant prison time, since the sex trafficking charges alone carry a mandatory minimum of 15 years.
