Associate (Attorney) – New York, NY & Washington, DC

DUTIES:
- Play a key role in delivering high-quality legal services across a broad range of practice areas.
- Responsible for managing and executing client matters, while collaborating closely with both legal and administrative teams to ensure seamless service delivery.
- In addition to handling substantive legal work, Associates contribute to the strategic development of legal solutions, uphold compliance with all applicable legal and ethical standards, and supervise legal staff as needed.
- Core responsibilities include providing legal advice, drafting and reviewing legal documents, representing clients in negotiations and proceedings, and ensuring adherence to all relevant laws and regulations.
- Conduct in-depth legal research using platforms such as Westlaw to examine statutes, case law, administrative regulations, and secondary legal sources across multiple jurisdictions, in support of ongoing client litigation matters.
- Draft, review, and revise complex litigation documents including pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, and legal memoranda, ensuring full compliance with applicable laws, court rules, and procedural standards.
- Provide tailored legal advice to clients in connection with general litigation matters, including case posture, risk exposure, procedural strategy, and potential settlement opportunities.
- Interpret and apply federal, state, and local laws and regulations to ongoing litigation matters, advising clients on potential legal impacts and recommending strategic actions to reduce exposure and protect legal rights.
- Appear in legal proceedings such as depositions, hearings, and court conferences, under the supervision of senior attorneys or partners, and contribute to case presentation and argument development.
- Develop litigation strategies and case plans by evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of each matter, identifying legal and factual issues, conducting witness interviews, and proposing evidence-based approaches.
- Utilize legal case management systems (e.g., PerfectLaw, Consilio) and document management tools (e.g., iManage) to maintain accurate, organized, and secure client files, case records, and correspondence.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, including clients, paralegals, expert witnesses, and regulatory bodies, to collect supporting documentation, perform case assessments, and ensure adherence to filing deadlines and procedural requirements.
- Provide supervision and mentorship to junior legal staff and paralegals, overseeing their work product for accuracy, and offering guidance on research methodologies, litigation procedures, and document preparation.
- Track and analyze evolving legal developments, including changes in relevant case law, procedural rules, or statutory interpretations, and communicate potential impacts to both internal teams and clients.
- Support business development initiatives by drafting client-facing legal updates, preparing practice area newsletters, attending professional development and industry events, and collaborating with the firm’s marketing team on client proposals and presentations.
- Utilize native Korean language skills to assist with communication, document review, and analysis related to cross-border whistleblower investigations and legal matters involving Korean-speaking clients and authorities.
REQUIREMENTS: Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school. Admission to NY State Bar. Manage a caseload and client matters while meeting annualized billable hours target of 1,800 hours.
Experience must include:
- 3 years of experience drafting substantive legal documents for submission to courts and/or tribunals
- 3 years of experience drafting and responding to discovery or document production requests
- 3 years of experience conducting legal research and writing memoranda
- 3 years of experience communicating with clients located in foreign jurisdictions
- 3 years of experience with legal research tools and Microsoft Office applications
- 3 years of experience with managing multiple tasks and deadlines
- 2 years of experience preparing fact or expert witnesses located in foreign jurisdictions for cross-examination
- Fluent in Korean
TELEWORK: Up to 20% Telework Permitted
TRAVEL: Up to 20% domestic and international travel for client meetings, court appearances and negotiations.
SALARY: $226,304.00 to $287,000.00 per year
