Lewis Baach Kaufmann Middlemiss PLLC (LBKM) is pleased to announce that Ahmed Almudallal, a former trial attorney in the U.S. Department of Justice’s National Security Division, has joined the firm as partner. With over 13 years of experience investigating and litigating complex financial and national security matters, Mr. Almudallal brings a unique blend of government insight and courtroom expertise to the firm’s global litigation and investigations practice.
At the Justice Department, Mr. Almudallal served in the Counterintelligence and Export Control Section, where he led high-profile investigations and prosecutions involving export control and sanctions violations, the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA), and cases implicating national security and classified information. His work involved cross-border financial investigations with a focus on anti-money laundering (AML) and Know Your Customer (KYC) compliance, often in coordination with regulatory and enforcement agencies such as the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS).
Among his notable cases were the ongoing prosecution of United States v. Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. (EDNY), the seizure of aircraft purchased in violation of U.S. sanctions, and a trial conviction in an Iranian sanctions matter. Beyond his litigation record, Mr. Almudallal has trained law enforcement across the country on investigative techniques involving sanctions and export controls, emphasizing the intersection of financial compliance and national security.
Mr. Almudallal joins LBKM’s elite team of veteran prosecutors and trial attorneys, further strengthening the firm’s capabilities in investigations, white collar defense, financial crimes compliance, and complex cross-border litigation.
“Ahmed has handled some of the most sensitive and sophisticated investigations in the national security space,” said Adam Kaufmann, executive partner at LBKM. “His understanding of the intersection between financial systems, compliance, and national security will greatly enhance our ability to advise and defend clients facing complex cross-border challenges.”
Mr. Almudallal added: “Lewis Baach Kaufmann Middlemiss has a long-standing reputation for tackling complex, high-stakes matters with creativity and precision. I’m thrilled to join such a talented team and look forward to helping clients navigate the increasingly intricate global regulatory and enforcement landscape.”
Earlier in his career, Mr. Almudallal served in the DOJ’s Tax Division, advising senior leadership on criminal tax enforcement strategy and policy. He also worked as an Assistant District Attorney in Manhattan, where he tried numerous criminal cases, focusing on financial fraud and corruption.
Mr. Almudallal earned his J.D. from the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University, with a concentration in criminal law and procedure. Fluent in Arabic and proficient in French, he brings valuable linguistic and cultural insight to the firm’s global practice.
LBKM also welcomes Associate Jordan S. Miceli to the practice. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Miceli was a judicial clerk to the Honorable Danya A. Dayson at the Superior Court of the District of Columbia where she worked on a wide variety of civil and felony matters. Earlier, she worked as an Associate for a boutique family law firm in Atlanta, Georgia. Ms. Miceli is a cum laude graduate of Washington and Lee University School of Law.
